All concepts will be demonstrated continuously through progressive examples using interactive Python and IPython Notebook.

Michael Heydt is an independent consultant, educator, and trainer with nearly 30 years of professional software development experience, during which time, he focused on Agile software design and implementation using advanced technologies in multiple verticals, including media, finance, energy, and healthcare. He holds an MS degree in mathematics and computer science from Drexel University and an executive master's of technology management degree from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Wharton Business School. His studies and research have focused on technology management, software engineering, entrepreneurship, information retrieval, data sciences, and computational finance. Nice overview

I found this book to be a useful one - it nicely covers all the pandas/finance basics. If your're a bit of a novice in either one, this book provides a nice introduction. It doesn't waste time with a Python introduction or other book-filling topics. It shows how to do all of the most useful operations in pandas as they relate to finance. Then it goes into options, portfolio theory, and applying pandas to a Google Trends project. I particularly liked the section on Zipline, a back-testing library. It was a little clearer than the documentation. The part where Quandl is used is also nice.

That said, if you dug around the internet, you could probably cobble these examples together. Also, it doesn't really go into either pandas or finance too deeply. I don't hold those against the book - it can't be all things to all people. The book makes for a nice overview of the relevant topics - but expect an overview.

Excellent intro to Pandas

I would recommend this book as a good basic intro to the fundamentals of Pandas even if you're not particularly interested in applying it to finance. I have read portions of a few others and this authors style is very concise and to the point on Series and DataFrames, and in particular on indexing of both.

Great for learning or as a reference.

I used the first edition of Anderson's Atlas of Hematology during my Hematology course of my medical laboratory science program and loved it. This edition is even better. Many of the pictures are now higher quality, and more time was put into the descriptions of the cells and disorders. I liked that both the FAB and WHO classification systems were used for leukemias. Not only is this a great book for learning practical Hematology, but it is also a great reference in clinical practice. I refer to it often when I come across a tricky cell while doing manual differentials. Maybe I'm a bit of a Hematology nerd, but I really like this book. That being said, if you already have the first edition, it would be completely understandable if you didn't want to spend the money on the new one. They are both great books. The second one is just a little more updated.

Gift for graduating FNP

Gift for my sister-in-law who love particularly loves hematology and just graduated and became licensed as an FNP. She loved it. Great book, but very heavy and floppy. It should be a hard back to protect it, but I see how the spiral helps it lay flat open for research purposes. The edges of the pages got bent before we could even give it to her because of the floppiness. There's no good way to "wrap it" without putting it in a sturdy box and filling it with bubble wrap. I hope it holds up. Also the pictures seemed slightly blurry… but I guess they're still clear enough to be useful!

The Historical Origins of Eugenic Criminology

Nicole Hahn Rafter's latest historical study of criminology and penology, Creating Born Criminals, traces the convoluted development of a category of persons known as "defective delinquents." As the name implies, this category combined criminality with a state of arrested development, which today we would call "mental retardation" or "developmental disability," but over the course of the period Rafter covers was known variously as "imbecility," "feeble-mindedness," or "psychopathy." Rafter traces the origins of what she calls "eugenic custodialism" to the founding of the Newark Custodial Asylum for Feeble-Minded Women in New York in 1878. "The Custodial," as it was called, was explicitly designed to confine "feeble-minded" women of child-bearing age in order to protect society against "bad heredity." Though some of these women would be called mentally retarded today, many were simply poor and/or guilty of sexual indiscretions. The founding of this unabashedly eugenic institution, Rafter argues, marked "the first time in U.S. history that the body itself was criminalized." Focusing primarily, but not exclusively, on New York State, Rafter goes on to describe how, in the 1910s, criminologists transformed the feebleminded criminal into the "defective delinquent." Criminologists "reconceptualized dangerousness as not violent behavior but a condition, an invisible hereditary defect carried by even minor offenders." Again, women preceded men into the realm of eugenic criminology. In 1920, New York passed its first defective delinquent law. "For the first time in the United States, prisoners deemed feebleminded" were given indefinite sentences. Although defective delinquent theory fell out of favor soon after the founding of the institutions inspired by it, Rafter found that some inmates spent virtually their entire adult lives at in prison under these laws. Inevitably, these unfortunates tended to be the truly mentally retarded, the prisoners least able to negotiate the administrative hurdles that would lead to release. In an age where incapacitative sentences appear to be making a comeback under various guises, ranging from "three-strikes" laws to the civil commitment of sex offenders, Creating Born Criminals ought to be required reading for everyone interested in criminal justice issues.

The diabetes mellitus bible

I am a freelance medical writer, and use this book as a reference when I'm working on diabetes projects. This is "the" textbook for diabetes mellitus. Like other medical textbooks, the language is very technical and scientific, therefore I would steer away people without a medical background who are looking to better understand diabetes (eg, patients).

The book arrived on time and it was in very good condition! I would recommend it to everyone, it has a lot of usefull information about diabetes and it's very technical too.
