simply about global health issue

have you ever wondered about the reason why over a million people die every day in the world? well one of the reasons are associated with the health of these people. many people who live in the developing world get bitten by mosquitoes and suffer malaria. malaria parasite can kill an individual if not treated accordingly. you may have consumed about 20 oz of water today or even lavished over 80 gallons of water within the past week in anything you use water for. however, do you know that there are people in the developing countries who die of thirst as a result of lack of clean water? well, learn what the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals has to say about this issue of health globally and there target to combat preventable deaths in the areas that needs it most by reading this book. i am sure it will be a great insight for you, if you live in a developed country but don't know much about what goes on in developing nations.

The importance of public health on a global scale

This book was a recommended reading for a university level course entitled “Introduction to Public Health.” We used the book extensively over the course of the semester to examine health issues prevalent in developing countries, read and discuss the provided case studies, and study the most recent, available (at the time), data for the purpose of developing ways to address ongoing and/or rising global health issues. I can confirm that a good portion of the book focuses on the health needs of developing countries, specifically the lack of access to essential health services/products (e.g. water purification tablets), especially among the poor and disadvantaged. You will also be drawn into the issues surrounding topics such as nutrition and health, infectious diseases, and the effects of natural disasters on health and health outcomes.

I'm holding the 9th edition in my hand and the 10th edition so far its page for page letter for letter the same book only thing changed was the numbering of some chapters.

Like the book, Hate the Loose Leaf

I've been teaching from this book for a number of years and the binding on this new version makes me want to change texts. Textbooks are expensive, and companies are constantly changing editions to make more money. In the world of education that's just par for the course but the loose leaf nature of this book means that the bookstore won't buy it back from my students and students cannot buy used copies. That's amazingly frustrating. I do encourage my students to sell their copies to the next semester's students, but I really hate requiring my students to spend SO much on a book that most of them have no use for after a semester.

Content-wise, as with most new editions of old books, the bulk hasn't changed, but there are a number of changes worth mentioning. The modern theater chapter is missing the section on specific playwrights. The section on Theater Makers of Today is no longer in there and I missed it. There's more updated info on lighting, projection and special effects. This edition does contain more up to date pictures and some discussion on some of the more current theater spectacles, including WARHORSE, SPIDERMAN, PORGY AND BESS and the really fun version of THE CAT IN THE HAT that was done at the National Theater.

In general, I wish this book broke tech theater up into a few more chapters and that he assumed a little less base knowledge of what theater people would consider plays everyone should know, because most of my Intro students don't know them, HOWEVER I've looked high and low for an Intro book I like better and have yet to find one, so with all the faults, I'm continuing to use this one.

I do like how this book is less a theater history book and more a book about the different disciplines that go into making a production whole. He does a great job of covering the different aspects of theater and is fairly well rounded.

Whether you are a seasoned professional or a first-time beginner, Bob Cohen's book will give you a breath of air as you slog through the sometimes smoggy atmosphere of teaching drama. One of the problems a drama teacher faces is that while everybody can act to a certain point--after all, most of us live a life of drama just navagating the simplest everyday experiences. But not all are able to capture that natural ability to adjust to life for use in an artificial environment--ie on the stage or before the camera. Cohen breaks that process down to basics. There are no esoterics here, only common sense . . . and truth. Among the exercises there is advice. Good advice. This is a great place to start before you tackle the various "Methods" that some swear by but often get between the actor and acting. I have been at this for nearly 30 years and still go back to Cohen for that breath of air I mentioned. It makes me want to go back into the darkness of the rehearsal hall to see whether I can make the magic yet again.

Great for anyone that talks

We met Doug Stevenson in person at a workshop. In a matter of just a few hours, we learned more than we had in the last year at other workshops. This book will give you the same information (although you'll miss his running around the stage) as we gained in the workshop. Well worth the read for anyone that speaks for a living, or just speaks to their friends.

This book is incredibly dry and boring. I cannot fathom how any author can keep talking in circles with so many words about such a simple topic. It's truly agonizing to read. It is all theory, with no practical or real examples whatsoever. Reading this book will put you to sleep and make you never want to have anything to do with schools or public relations.

Beautiful and Powerful

The Princess Saves Herself in This One is a collection of poetry in four parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen, and you. Honestly, I have a hard time calling this poetry because it’s more than that. This collection is raw emotion and life experiences manifested as words. It’s pain, suffering, self-reflection, self-discovery, love, loss, and more. I could spend years reading and re-reading it, carefully editing this draft, and I still wouldn’t be able to do it justice.

As I read this, I had a couple of thoughts between sudden outbursts of tears. One was that I hadn’t read a collection of poetry that I related to and felt the words so deeply since my first encounter with Sylvia Plath’s poetry when I was a teenager. The second was that I probably should have read it with tissues and wine.

I’ve had book hangovers before, but what I’m experiencing after reading The Princess Saves Herself in This One isn’t a book hangover, it’s a haunting. The words won’t leave me, and I’m ok with that. I bought the Kindle edition of this because A) I could have it and read it faster, and B) money was tight when I bought it. But, I think I’m going to order a physical copy ASAP because I want this on my poetry shelf. Something this important, something that touched my life in the way this book did (which I can’t convey in words, so I’m not going to try)… it deserves a spot on my shelf. I’m certain this will be something I read again…and again.

A MUST READ (Very Powerful Poetry!)

(I have a feeling that this will be on my top 2016 books)

I kept seeing this book around, so when it was free on Amazon I decided why not try it out? I AM SO INCREDIBLY GLAD I DID! This book was incredibly powerful, it is just.... so so SO powerful. But more on that later, first here is the summary!

The Princess Saves Herself in this one is divided into four separate parts, The Princess, The Damsel, The Queen and You. I don't read poetry books often, honestly, I don't like poetry all that much. The only other poetry book I read was Poisoned Apples, which like this book dealt with some heavy topics, although Poisoned Apples was more of a feminist book... I'm not entirely sure how to review poetry, so I wrote down some thoughts for each part, but first, here's the short of it!

In its entirety:

This book deals with some heavy topics, but they are IMPORTANT issues like anorexia, depression, and abuse just to name a few.
The poetry was just so... AMAZING. I can't explain it but the way the words moved was fast paced but oh so interesting and I just could not put this book down. It was captivating and heart breaking but near the end, it became warm/had a good message.
The Princess Saves Herself in this One started off very dark, and sad but near the end things get better. Like I said, the message was FANTASTIC (I think I'm going to buy it!)
Very short and quick read, so people with not a lot of time can finish it in about an hour! SHARE IT with others!

The Princess:

This is probably one of the darkest beginnings I've ever read. But in the summary, it says that the first three parts are the authors life and the final is a message to the reader. The Princess (from what I picked up) deals with Anorexia, depression and bullying.
Though this was really dark, it was POWERFUL and I can't say that enough. This book nearly brought me to TEARS. The message was just so GOOD and I just CANT explain how AMAZING this one, honestly, everyone should read it. The YOU part is what got to me the most D: well, all four parts go to me....

The Damsel:

My interpretation of this was young love and broken hearts.
There as a LOT of loss in this chapter, a LOT and I was close to crying. I'm not a fan of poetry, but this poetry was so beautifully worded and pieced together and it made me feel things. It (not this section) made me smile/feel victorious and cry (this chapter DID make me cry!)

The Queen:

This section was about loving yourself, and growing stronger.
THIS is where the book starts to get a lighter feel and like all three other sections, was POWERFUL (I can't say that enough D:

Thoracic surgeon Gundry has invented many devices now commonly used in heart surgeries. Here, he shows readers how to avoid such surgeries as well as obesity, high cholesterol and blood pressure levels, diabetes and even cancer by outsmarting a genetic code set for survival when food was scarce and physical activity strenuous. Our culture, technology and lifestyles may have changed, Gundry says, but our genes have not. The first part of his three-phase diet aims to break reliance on high-carb, sugar-laden foods. I love it and lost 8 pounds in my first week ...

This is a program that is a natural dietary change, this is not a fad diet at all. The diet points out the physical impact white and beige foods (carbs, sugars, sweeteners, starches, etc.) have on your body and your fat production process. The system is natural and filled with whole foods and vegetables. I love it and lost 8 pounds in my first week on the diet. I only have another 5 to 10pounds that I want to lose to hit my best weight and it is amazing how quickly it can work. I did the diet 6 years ago and had great results and my blood test changed just as predicted to where my cholesterol and triglycerides fell to normal levels that were the lowest of my life within 6 to 8 weeks on the diet. I then fell off the wagon and added the whites and carbs back in heavily over the past year so I gained the weight back. This time I will stay in control and have a day a week that I can eat what I want and then stick to the diet the rest of the week so that I can maintain my perfect weight but not deprive myself completely of the "bad foods".. I love this program and it works if you work it!!!

Life Changer!

This diet has changed my life! After following it for only about two weeks, I noticed many health issues (that were plaguing me) were disappearing. I have never felt better! I have been on it now for almost eight years and I have basically stopped aging while my friends pass me by. The diet starts out slowly -I started on the end diet which has mostly raw vegetables and fruits as an immune system course (for my continuing education to maintain my nursing license) also recommends raw food to boost the immune system. As a result, I have not been sick since I started this diet.

I'm on my way and very happy to be learning more good habits

So far I'm very enthusiastic! I've lost 7 lbs the first week and I'm not that heavy. Went from 172 to 165, my ideal weight would be about 147. I'm doing this mainly to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. 5 years ago I got rid of the carbs and lost 20 lbs and put it back on. Since then I've been changing my eating habits little by little. First Atkins, then Paleo, now Dr Gundry.... I've adapted many permanent changes over time and continuing to do so. This book is just another tool in my belt. Now that I'm pushing 60 years old, it was very hard to start the weight loss process. Nothing was changing my metabolism anymore. This book worked! I'm on my way and very happy to be learning more good habits! Can't weight to get a blood test in a few months to see what my cholesterol is.
